Each day invites you to reconnect with the quiet discipline of seeing - where light, structure, and environment shape not only what you paint, but how you experience the world.
Located on Puerto Rico's east coast near Ceiba, this retreat setting offers ocean views, tropical landscape, and close proximity to El Yunque National Rainforest.
The Wild Canvas Retreat is designed for artists who want more than a vacation.
This is a week devoted to observation, atmosphere, and meaningful creative growth.
Instruction is led by artists deeply committed to the practice of painting from life.
Introducing Featured Instructor:
Craig Richards
Plein air painting invites us to slow down and respond directly to the rhythms of the natural world. Light shifts, color relationships evolve, and atmosphere becomes an active part of the creative process.
We are honored to welcome award-winning painter Craig Richards, whose work reflects a deep sensitivity to light, structure, and environment.
Craig's approach emphasizes careful observation, strong compositional clarity, and confident paint handling developed through sustained engagement with painting on location.
Craig is a founding member and served as President of Triad Outdoor Painters for 15 years, helping build one of the largest plein air painting organizations in North Carolina, serving a community of over 300 artists.
Throughout the retreat, Craig will offer demonstrations, individual guidance, and thoughtful feedback, supporting each participant in developing both technical skill and personal artistic direction within the quiet beauty of coastal Puerto Rico.
